Follow along with the process of my VR world, "Shipwreck".

Engineering: On December 3rd, we will be exhibiting our VR worlds to visitors at the STEAM Maker fair. I think we should all have our VR world set up on screens where people can see them, but have a few on their actual devices (ie. google cardboard, vive, oculus) Or, we could take turns having each of our world shown and when people walk up we could tell everyone about what's going on and the original idea etc. I think we should have a small poster that explains the entire project so people walking by can read about the actual project with producers paying employees, instead of waiting for us to be done talking and get to them. I also think we should talk about the posters we made and how they connect to biased information like double speak and what we learned in English.
English: John Dewey believes we should be learning from experience on our own and not from textbook problems. He also says we need to go through trial and error in order to fully understand the solution to a problem. In our VR project, we were given a project theme, but no rules or problems to work off of, so we ran into our own on the way. Instead of learning from a book how to solve the problems, we either learned and worked through it on our own or with our peers, who, eventually, ran into some of the same problems too.

Engineering: I am nervous for how my VR world will look, but we finally settled on the idea of having the world based on Queen Anne's Revenge. All our speech blurbs will be actual facts from the real shipwreck. Right now I have two people, Chloe and Alondra, working on the facts, Josh working on the 3D modeling finishing touches, and Mia working on the programming. We will still need another week to work on finishing our world, but I am very happy so far.
Engineering: I am nervous about having enough time to finishing the 3D models in time to let the programmer have enough time to finish the VR world. Right now, my biggest concern is time management. Though, I have a lot of faith in my crew and I'm excited to see me final project.
English: After seeing the reality of what constitutes reliable news, I am now consuming the news critically. I now realize that every piece of news written and recorded is biased and I need to see all sides of the situation before having my own opinion. I think it's very important to form your own opinion based on multiple news sources so we don't changed society to have one opinion. There's something great about having multiple opinions in America instead of just one. 1. During the first project week, I noticed it was hard to talk to a couple people in my group because they're in a different class. I also am having trouble making a rubric to grade my VR world with. I am very glad I hired a co producer to help make these decisions. I don't think I could do all of this work by myself.
2. When working in a distracting place, I like to find a quiet area by myself. I work best when I am not around friends or distracting things like computers or cellphones. I also like to put on a sweater because, oddly enough, I am most focus when I am warm. If I am in a cold room, I am easily distracted. 3. Celebrities or people who have power over us influence our choices whether we like the people or not. If we see a celebrity we like using a product, we will have more influence to buy that product. If we see a government official we don't like visiting a store, we would most likely not want to shop there anymore. Sometimes we make these decisions without even realizing they were influenced by someone else. Engineering: "70-80% of jobs will disappear in the next 20 years." I am working my entire life to become a specific job that will disappear in 20 years? The reality of losing my job before even being hired is a scary thought, especially when I don't know what jobs will later be available, and if I'll be prepared/qualified for them in time. Job applications will soon be as packed as the freeways.
English: The job fair, for me, wasn't very useful because I had already picked the people I would hire. I was hoping to see more producers applying for my project, but I had mainly 3D modelers apply. I think the jobs should've had equal amounts of people, to ensure each producer has a programmer, 3D modeler, actor, and/or videographer. I learned to be more open to those wanting to apply, instead of picking my friends. I hope the people I hired will work hard and create the best VR world possible. Project Update: Advertising shapes society in many ways. If clothing magazines show a fit, beautiful model, society conforms to the standards shown. If given stricter regulations, advertisers will find loopholes to show products, with less clear lies and more hidden secrets. Recently, advertisers have been switching words around to say one thing, but mean another. This way they can lie without being blamed. I don't think anything can be done to stop advertising doublespeak. Engineering: Since I am the producer of my VR world, I will be hiring several people to video, edit, and co-produce. Today, I presented my ideas and hope the audience will like to help build them. I have talked to various people in my class about what they think my VR world should look like, and I have acquired some great ideas that I will be implementing. Next week, I hope to hire all three of the specialists and start storyboarding.
English: Learning about the skills politicians use to market their campaigns changed my perspective on how I see their propaganda. Looking at the commercials and posters, I see the tactics used and am now more aware of how I react to them. After reading about the main types of doublespeak, I started to question everything that we buy or even how we ourselves speak. If I want something, maybe I use doublespeak to make parents let me go, though I may not realize it. |
